If you ever needed motivation to pick yourself up after falling down, look to Guyra’s Kelsie Youman.
The star of the athletics track took at tumble at the National Championships while she was on her way to a personal best time and a potential podium finish in the 800m race.
Nearly 200m out from the finish line and on the tail of the Australian champion, Youman’s foot caught another athlete and she hit the ground. She dusted herself off and continued on to earn her second best time over the distance. Never the quitter, Youman ploughed on to compete in the 2000m steeplechase and finished sixth.
Her efforts didn’t go unnoticed and she was selected for Australia to compete in both events at the Oceania Championships in Fiji.
She was in top form heading into the Nationals and hopes she can emulate her efforts in Australian colours.
"I would like to try and get a personal best in the 800m, like a time I would have got at Nationals if I didn't fall, that would be really good because I don't have it on paper,” she said.
"The steeplechase, I will just give it another go and try and get my water jumps a bit better because my water jumps aren't great.
"It is a different atmoshpere over there and it is broadcasted on television which makes you a bit more nervous and excited, makes you run a bit better.”
