Guyra’s clash against Easts on Saturday fell the same way as all their matches this season with a low-scoring effort with the bat letting the side down again.

The visiting side won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Troy Martin and Ryan Walker departed early with one and two runs. Easts’ Jackson Gwynne doing the damage. Tyson Burey then dismissed Nick Page for one.

Matt Finley stepped up to the crease for the visiting side and managed his team’s top score of 27 before he was sent back to the sheds by Todd Francis.

Captain Charlie Keen made eight before he was stumped. Jason Campbell was caught out for a duck.

Francis struck again when BJ Cameron was trapped lbw for six. Shane Wolfenden stepped up to the crease and offered some resistance to the strikepower of Easts with 13 runs while Brandan Landsborough left with a duck. A change in bowlers saw Matt Jackson step up and dismiss Wolfenden.

Jake Davies followed suit with five to round out the innings at 10-92.

Guyra landed an early blow early in Easts’ innings when Cameron sent opener Dean Moore packing with a duck. Aaron Whackett was next to depart for two before Clarrie Moran and Todd Francis made their impact felt. Francis soared to 38 runs while Moran raced to 37 to chase down Guyra’s total.

Guyra will take on Hillgrove this Saturday and with 92 Guyra’s top score for the season, Keen said they will aim to climb above the 100-mark.

“We are slowly improving with the bat each week,” he said.

“Hopefully our top order will fire this weekend and we can get off to a good start.

“We have also played each club once which gives us a bit more to work with in regards to the opposition, now knowing what to expect.

“The team this week is relatively the same, one or two players may be brought up into the side due to some good, recent form.”

In representative news, BJ Cameron will step up to the region’s top opens representative competition with selection in Armidale’s War Veterans Cup team who play Inverell at the Sportsground on Sunday.
