At Group 19’s recent Annual General Meeting a decision was made to include a mini competition fro youngsters wanting to play rugby league.
It will be open to children turning five or six in 2018.
The new competition will mean younger children can play in a fair game with players their own age while developing their football skills.
It also means any five or six-year-old player interested in signing up won’t have to join the under 8 team and play against bigger children.
Women’s rugby league is one of the fastest growing sports in the state and league tag in the Group has proved a success over the years.
League tag has surged in popularity and plans are in place to introduce a new division to create more opportunities for girls wishing to take up the sport.
From next year, there will be three league tag competitions in juniors – an eight, nine and ten-year-old category, 11, 12 and 13-year-olds will have their own competition and 14,15 and 16 year-olds will battle in their division.
The Guyra Junior Super Spuds held their AGM recently with Gina Lockyer retaining her position as club president, Jason Campbell elected as vice-president, Anna Heagney as secretary and Louise Dowden will be treasurer.
The club are hoping to field teams in the under 14 and under 16 boys’ competition and in senior league tag next year after missing out this season.
Interested players across all grades are encouraged to contact Gina Lockyer either via ginaguyrajrl@gmail.com or 0427 332 037.
The Super Spuds are asking for expressions of interest for anyone wishing to coach a team next year.
Lockyer encouraged anyone who is keen to get involved in the small but thriving club to contact her and find out the process on what it takes to be a junior league coach.
