Guyra won the toss and elected to bat.
The visitors were left ruing their decision to bat first as Max Laurie made quick work of the top three.
Young batsman Nick Page provided some resistance for his side, spending the longest out at the crease for 11 before Laurie claimed him as well.
Jake Davies gave Laurie his 5-fa and Sean Skinner and Hillgrove skipper Matt Schaefer collected the rest for Guyra’s total of 57.
While Guyra were outclassed by their more experienced opponents, Schaefer believes there is plenty of potential in the newcomers to first grade’s outfit.
“They had a couple of guys that looked like they will be alright,” he said.
“To their credit they have a couple of good young guys who played some pretty good cricket.
“We got big wickets where we got their better players out pretty cheaply and the other guys just fell around that.
“I thought the young guys went alright, they tried to stick around a bit.
“If they got out it was to a good ball or a good piece of fielding whereas the more experienced guys did throw their wickets away a little bit.
“He [Page] only scored 11 runs but he stuck around for a fair while and just worked them around.”
Guyra captain Charlie Keen agreed with his counterpart’s comments.
“Young Nick Page showed some good signs hanging in there for the majority of Guyra’s batting innings and BJ Cameron picking up two great wickets early on while bowling,” he said.
BJ Cameron picked up the key wicket of Matt Baillie in the opening over for a duck before collecting Josh Croft for 10.
This Saturday will have Guyra play their first home game for the season against Armidale City who finished as easy winners against Ex-Services in round one.
“This weekend it’s pretty straightforward in getting the win against City,” Keen said.
“[We] just need to be a bit more patient with the bat.”
In third grade, Guyra losts to Easts (Anytime) in a tight encounter.
