The GhostStags started the game with just 15 players, two of which were hampered by injury. The news didn’t get any better for the side with a further two picking up long-term injuries during the match.
They did post the first points at Bellevue Oval but the students were then propelled into action to run aay with the game.
We did alright for the first 5-10 minutes and then it all went really pear-shaped,” Glen-Guyra coach Whata Rogers said.
“It was like we were playing with 13 men to start with.
“The guys who ran on injured put in a good effort and then we picked up two pretty bad ones along the way with our number eight and our number five. Definitely a hard day at the office.”
The hosts posted 64 points to Glen-Guyra’s 12.
A question remains over the availability of players heading into this Saturday’s game against the Barbarians at home.
“This weekend we aren't sure if we aren't going to have numbers, we have a lot of people doing harvesting and are away,” Rogers said.
“We will get a team together hopefully.
“If they finish harvesting then we get a few back and we will have a few numbers.”
Albies also picked up a couple of injuries in the round 11 game in Pete Brooker and Jono Green.
Brooker is out for a long stint after breaking his foot and Green will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
“Two frontline first graders are missing so you have to deal with that and we have the depth to do it,” Albies’ co-coach Chris Kelly said.
Although they picked up injuries Kelly said the result was pleasing for his side after a couple of sluggish performances in their previous matches.
“We got a pretty good full strength team back early from their holidays so we were on deck and ready to go,” he said.
“They had their wake-up call when we played Glen the last time and certainly, while we didn't have much preparation in terms of training, they played really well.”
While Albies were dominant across the park, the team's three points went to Tom Condon while James Reynolds picked up two and Tom McDonald claimed one.
“He [Condon] had a really good game, strong in defence, strong ball running options and added a bit of spark to our backline,” Kelly said.
“Two points went to James Reynolds who was really good, distributed and took some good runs when the opportunities presented themselves.”
