Money from the fundraiser goes toward the Melanoma Institute Australia.
Now, Armidale High School students have gotten involved – raising $327 for the cause.
Principal Carolyn Lasker said students had been learning about random acts of kindness in their positive behaviour lessons.
“We talked about raising funds for research around melanoma,” she said.
“Obviously because we have one of the sons at the school [Year 7 student Angus Brazier], it was a whole lot more meaningful for the kids.”
The rainbow is a symbol of the Melanoma Institute Australia.
Teachers and students brought whatever spare change they had to fill in the rainbow and raise money for melanoma research.
