Year 8 and 10 agriculture students from Guyra Central School travelled to Tenterfield for the Northern Schools Prime Lamb Competition last week – cleaning up the competition in the middle weight class placing 1st, 2nd and 4th.

The School’s Scott Miller led the excursion and said students were further educated about the different market specifications for lambs, and were tested on their ability to select animals that were suitable for a particular market.
“Taylah Mitchell and Gemma Williams were impressive in the junior judging gaining 3rd and 4th respectively out of approximately 150 students,” he said.
“Along with the students, we entered 16 lambs into the competition with three pens of three lambs in the light weight and two pens in the middle weight.”
There was also one lamb entered into the individual led section.
“We also came away with a 2nd place in the middle weight section,” he said.
“Congratulations to all students on their outstanding efforts and achievements over the two days.”
