Victory Vibes was racing for his first career win and he delivered.
The three-year-old gelding surged past Tennessee Vega by nearly two lengths to stride over the finish line first over the 1100 metres.
All fingers were crossed in the Grills’ party as his gelding was searching for his first win in more than a year.
Carrying the top weight of 60kg, Cliveden House just snagged it ahead of Jumpity with apprentice Mollie Partridge aboard.
"It was about time his turn came around again,” Grills said.
"It was a very nice run, a very well judged ride, everything was pretty well deserved. He was at 61.5kg and she got 1.5kg off so that brought him back to 60kg.”
His last start in Moree saw him finish a third and in his prior run in Armidale, finished 10th.
"He is definitely a dry weather track runner and the run at Armidale was a soft seven and at Moree it was just a bit short for him, they were just too fast,” Grills said.
Both trainers have horses nominated for races in Sunday’s Tamworth Cup.
Vidler has put forward Monday’s Expert for the main race while Grills has Kingston Time and Image of Love nominated in the second and fifth.
