What will the new Armidale Regional Council proposed fees and charges mean for Guyra residents?

FEES and charges are being aligned after the merger of Armidale Dumaresq and Guyra Shire Councils.

The proposed changes will apply across all services provided by the new Armidale Regional Council and affect every sector from business to the arts.

Guyra residents will be offered 154 new services under the new Council.

Armidale Regional Council CEO Peter Dennis said it was important for the community to understand that the new fees and charges cover a wider scope of services provided by a larger Council.

“Guyra region residents will see some new charges that were not included in the former Guyra Shire Council’s fees and charges,” he said.

“The draft fees and charges now cover a larger scope of services that are offered to the new local government area. 

“The impact these fees have on members of the community depends on the level of service you require or utilise as a ratepayer, resident or through business.”

For services that are not location specific, Guyra can expect some costs to rise to meet Armidale prices.

Developers will pay $2240 more per application for a State Environment Planning Proposal Design Review Panel.

Overall, water connection charges will increase by $190 and water quality and instrument testing will cost an extra $180.

For pet owners, prices will drop significantly for animal surrenders, impounding and microchipping.

The good news for Guyra residents is that burials are far cheaper, with the cost of a plot in the local cemetery $1142 less than in Armidale.

The proposed fees and charges are on public exhibition until May 11 and are expected to come into effect on July 1, 2017.
