The new fence was funded through Armidale Regional Council’s Stronger Communities Grants, a one-off allocation provided by the State Government to Councils that have undertaken mergers in NSW.
The $25,000 fence will provide a safety barrier between the Sporting Complex and highway traffic, and will assist sporting associations to manage spectator crowds.
Council’s Administrator, Dr Ian Tiley said the Strong Communities Grants have provided funding for many local community improvement projects, and he is delighted to see another completed project.
“The construction of the new Lion’s Park Sporting Complex fence is an important community safety project and helps to address community and Council concerns about the proximity of the New England Highway,” he said.
“The initiative also adds quality infrastructure to this well-used community asset, and I congratulate all involved in the application for funding and the construction of the fence.”
The Lion’s Park Sporting Complex is the venue for sporting clubs and competitions including the Guyra Junior Rugby League Club, Senior Rugby League Club, Guyra Rugby Union Club, and the Guyra and District Cricket Association.
