The Friends of the NERAM will open a stunning country garden at Black Mountain, between Armidale and Guyra, showcasing an array of art forms and involving many local artists, with proceeds from the event going to support the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM).
“This is one of our most significant and enjoyable annual fundraising events,” Art Museum Director Robert Heather said.
“Last year the NERAMble Art in the Garden weekend was attended by over 400 people and raised $10,000 which was donated by the Friends to support the Helen Dangar Memorial Arts Bursary to create opportunities for local artists.
“The work that the Friends of NERAM do to support the art museum through the NERAMble events create great opportunities for the whole community to get out and enjoy artistic activities across the whole region.”
The spectacular garden of ‘Myola’ belonging to Geralyn and Roger Flower will be featured in this year’s NERAMble open garden weekend and is situated on the top of the range just a few kilometres from the Black Mountain village, close to Guyra.
“This will be a wonderful outing for all the family with lots of stalls and food and the garden opening at the height of the New England autumn,” NERAMble organiser and garden expert Lynn Walker said.
“The large elegant garden nestles into its site, surrounded by basalt stone walls which overflow with a mixture of exotic and native plantings, all in harmony with each other.
“At present it looks gorgeous with mature crabapples, hebes, pittosporum, maples andcordylines feature in the raised rock beds, and are underplanted with masses of perennials and groundcovers and there is soft colour everywhere.”
“Geralyn and Roger are both art lovers and have collected many striking sculptures which feature throughout the garden and these will be joined over the weekend by a range of other sculptures as well as watercolours, pottery and other artworks by local artists.”
There will also be a selection of plants from Black Mountain Nursery and Maddison Jayne Textiles will have a range of colourful silk screen printed products available for sale, there will be an autumn harvest and a second hand jewellery stall as well as Devonshire Teas and lunches.
The NERAMble Open Garden will be open to the public from 10.00am – 4.00pm on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April and entry will be $10 for adults, $8.00 for Friends of NERAM and free for under 18 years old.
