The pair spoke at a council meeting in Guyra on Wednesday – in response to the removal of the former council’s signs.
“Since they’ve taken down our signs, we want to make sure that there’s something in its place,” Ms White said.
“It doesn’t mean we have accepted that we can’t demerge and it doesn’t mean we are accepting things will stay as they are.
“We want something to say ‘this is how it was and these are the formative people’.”
Ms White said the first six councillors who formed Guyra Shire Council on November 24, 1906, should be recognised.
“We need some recognition of how it started, who the people were and their incentive and their direction,” she said.
Mr Gordon said they wanted two plaques in a prominent position outside the Guyra council building.
“I think it serves the best interest of everybody to take an interest in history,” Mr Gordon said.
