The grand final against TAS White was cancelled due to Saturday’s miserable conditions but the star-studded Guyra side finished with the trophy based on ladder points. The majority of the team played their junior careers together and have won the title every year since the beginning.
Coach Andrew Page has been there every step of the way and burst with pride at the quality of players in his team who have stepped up to higher honours throughout his time at the helm.
“We only moved to Guyra this year but that same core of fine, young men have gone right through,” he said.
“I am going to miss it so bad next year because I am not coaching anything.
“It is a real honour to do that sort of stuff with a group and to see some of them go, Jackson [Gwynne] especially.
“He has been with us since under 10s and now he is off playing state cricket and first grade at 16. It is extraordinary. To realise you have had some small part in that, it is really humbling.”
The team received their medals at Armidale District Cricket’s junior presentation and some of their stars were honoured.
BJ Cameron was rewarded for having the competition’s highest batting average and aggregate and Gwynne was named the association’s overall best player.
