Whata Rogers spent time in Sydney playing for Randwick and brings a wealth of knowledge to the combined club for the 2017 season.
"Pre-season is always a bit of a struggle for us, all the boys have touch on a Tuesday and a Thursday but we had a session at Glencoe on Thursday with the new coach Whata Rogers,” vice-president Sam Price said.
"We are really looking forward to what he brings to the club this season and I think it is shaping up, we should have plenty of players for one grade.”
The merged side’s first game is on March 25 against the premiers, St Albert’s College. Price estimates the former Ghosts and Elks clubs will contribute 12-16 players each, giving them enough numbers to be a force in the top grade this season.
He said although it has been a slow start with summer sports preventing players from turning up to pre-season training, interest from potential players ensures signs are promising for the season ahead.
"We should have plenty of depth, it is pretty exciting,” he said.
“We have a trial game on the 18th in Yamba so it will be interesting to see the sort of numbers we get for that.”
The club are alternating between the two towns for training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
