The 18 students who sat the test did so without the use of calculators, rulers or other mathematical instruments.
Principal of Guyra Central School Joanne Burgess said the test is a good opportunity for students from regional areas.
“We have been working to build the student’s confidence so that they perform very well in this competition,” Ms Burgess said.
The national competition consists of 35 maths questions people may be faced with in real life.
Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett said the competition encourages youth to enjoy maths in realistic situations.
“Mathematics and problem solving are valuable skills and the exam helps students develop these, providing more opportunities later in life,” he said.
This is the competition’s 36th year and 731 students competed from the region.
