Captain-coach James Abbo said the rule change allows for a more free-flowing style of hockey.
“It is a nine-a-side competition this year so it is a bit different and we are finding there is a lot of space out there which suits the younger, fitter teams which is probably why we are where we are,” he said.
“We are the older team in the competition but we hold our own.
“All our games are pretty close but they get over us at the end when it comes to the fitness part of it.
The Guyra men played the Wasps in their last match and thumped them 18 points to eight.
Abbo highlighted a few players who have impressed in the 2016 season.
“Michael Young plays at the back for us and he has probably been the standout,” he said.
