The Association recently conducted their annual general meeting and selected a new committee for the upcoming season and discuss how to improve the club’s title chances.
The 2015/16 season finished off with both senior teams missing the finals by one spot which has left an unfinished fire burning with the association.
The new Guyra Cricket Committee for 2016/17 is:
President James Stewart
Vice President Craig Lockyer
Secretary / Treasurer Janelle Stewart
Junior program managers Craig Lockyer and Gwen Pearson
Senior program manager Adrian Cameron.
The new committee participated in a workshop after the AGM to discuss program formats for the summer.
These included fielding two quality sides in Armidale in first and second grade.
For James and the new committee, missing the Armidale finals is not an option again.
In January 2017 plans have started for a Super 6er’s tournament over the Australia day weekend to bring new senior both guys and girls to the game and to re-establish some strong community sponsorship for cricket in the community.
Again last season the Lamb and Potato festival proved to be a great fundraising opportunity for the association but the purchase of some new uniforms has left the coffers a little low to start the new season.
For juniors the Guyra teams were well represented at club level and several Guyra girls participated in the first Northern Inland 6er’s Girls Cricket Challenge in Armidale and Gunnedah finishing in second place.
Kath Barber from Cricket NSW attended the AGM to thank the outgoing committee for their ongoing service to cricket in the area.
The Guyra Cricket Association are well respected and welcomed into the Armidale District cricket program.
Future planning discussions were held about again hosting a local MILO In2cricket program for entry level players to grow interest in the game.
From here, players then transition into the Armidale junior programs.
BJ Cameron has already shown interest in helping host the new program.
Congratulations to James and his new committee and already having a platform to build the program for greater cricket participation when the 2016/17 summer of cricket commences in October.
