On reading the front page of the Guyra Argus, May 19, 2016 I felt that the Councillors in office at the time of amalgamation were very poorly treated, and that the NSW State Government should feel ashamed that members of the community who volunteer to give freely of their time can be struck down as if their services have not been valued at state government level.

In 2001 we celebrated the year of the volunteer, and in so doing showed appreciation for people in local government, RLPB’s, RFS’s and countless other groups.
The Baird Government showed a weird way of celebrating National Volunteer Week (9/5/16 to 15/5/16 ) when sacking so many dedicated Councillors across NSW.
Premier Baird owed it to all councils involved with mergers to inform all Councillors in a less hurtful and more appropriate and courteous manner. Without appreciation volunteers can begin to question the “giving part” of being involved in whatever the cause may be.
May I take the opportunity to thank the Guyra Councillors for their commitment and dedication, especially over recent times when the merger has been on the agenda.
