Kelsie was selected in both the 800m and 1500m events in the under 18 section and will be competing against athletes from many different countries including Fiji, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
This is the first time Kelsie has competed at an international level following on from her achievements at NSW Combined High Schools Athletics in September last year where she won gold in the 1500m and bronze in the 800m.
Kelsie has also competed at several other state level events which resulted in her selection into the Australian Regional team.
Only the top three times were chosen to gain selection in this team which shows the high level of competition.
Kelsie’s training routine is quite intensive and she works extremely hard training both in Guyra, with her mother Nadine, and in Armidale with the Viper Squad.
Her hard work and dedication to her sport is definitely paying off and this will be her first International competition and a wonderful experience as there will be members of the Rio Olympic team competing in the senior division.
