The excellent school spirit came through with the house chants being a highlight again this year. The great participation in swimming events and support from students of all ages was tremendous to see.
The rivalry between the sports houses was very strong, however there could only be one winner. Nincoola was the winning house.
Students participated in their age groups for a variety of events including 25, 50 and 100 metre freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly along with 4x50m individual medleys and a 4x50m freestyle relays in both junior and senior divisions.
Age Champions Girls- 12 years: Taylor Mitchell, 13 years: Kasey Gaukroger
14 years: Eva Knox, 15 years: Bronte Stanley, 16 years: Sophie Gaukroger, 17 plus: Briana Merritt
Age Champions Boys- 13 years: Miles Williams, 14 years: Taylor Brennan, 15 years: Zac Rolff, 16 years: Hunter Davidson, 17 years: Brodie Harman
Testing out the swimming skills of a selection of students was the SKINS race. This was a feature event with the fastest in each age group having a race off in 50 metre freestyle.
Starting with the fastest six students Taylor Mitchell, Brodie Harman, Sophie Gaukroger, Eva Knox, Bronte Stanley and Kasey Gaukroger, the racing started, the slowest to complete each race was eliminated race by race until three remained. The winner and placegetters of this event was first place Kasey Gaukroger, second was Bronte Stanley and third place was Eva Knox.
An entertaining event for the completion of the day was the Teachers/Parents versus Students 25m freestyle relay. After a girls’ team was organised they then challenged the boys to organise a team to compete against the teacher/parents team also which consisted of Mr Scott Miller, Mrs Lynda Hopwood, Mrs Linley Ryan and ex-student Austin Youman who came up winners!
Thank you to Mrs Linley Ryan for organising the carnival and the secondary staff team for fulfilling the important roles of starter, announcer, recorder, time keepers, chief ribbon writer and photographer.
