The New England District Fours were played at Guyra on the weekend just gone and the Guyra team of M Shiner, R Moore, S Campbell and S Sole came out on top, becoming this year’s District Champions.

In the semi-final, Mick, Robert, Scott and Steven took on the highly fancied Armidale City team of P Bullen, T Inman, J Bullen and T Fuller.
By the 12th end, the Guyra boys had blasted their way to a 21-2 lead, before winning by 26-12.
In the final, these four Guyra lads then had to contend with R Clutterbuck, L McIntyre, C Broadbeck and R Chedwyn from Armidale City.
Armidale came out first and after two ends were leading 4-nil. Mick, Robert, Scott and Steven clawed back and after five ends the score was 4-all.
After the seventh end the Guyra Foursome had hit the lead by 7-5 (a lead that they never surrendered).
After 16 ends and with five to play, the Guyra team was up 19-8. Then with one end to go the score read 19-14 to Guyra.
So, with positional bowls Mick, Robert, Scot and Steven scored two shots, making the final score 21-14.
Congratulations to Mick Shiner, Robert Moore, Scott Campbell and Steven Sole on being District Champs. They will now go to Inverell RSM for the Zone play-offs. All the best, boys.
In Club Championships just the one game played and this was in Minor Singles between M Jackson (first game) and M Bourke.
Murray out first going to a lead of 2-nil. By the third end Mick had drawn level at 2-all.
With the score reading 5-4 to Murray after six ends, he then fired up and by end nine he had stretched the lead out to 10-4, then further out to 20-6 after 14 and then 25-7 after 17.
With the score reading 28-9 to Murray, Mick then scored a three, making it 12-28 (you beauty, double figures). Murray than scored two ones taking the score to 31-12.
Mick then found his range and his radar and by winning seven ends on the trot had brought the score to 22-30.
With Murray scoring one shot on the 32nd end, he walked away with a hard fought 31-22 victory over Mick.
For the record, 32 ends were played with Murray and Mick both winning 16 ends.
