Each year that passes increases the chance that we or someone we know will be told, “I’m very sorry, you have Cancer”. In fact, nearly all of us have already been touched in some way or another by this devastating disease.

This is why a group of Guyra cyclists will once again ride from Armidale to South West Rocks, leaving on April 14 and arriving, after 2 ½ days of riding, exhausted but jubilant at having accomplished a massive achievement - raising much-needed funds to fight Cancer.
The Tour de Rocks began 6 years ago when Jonathon Wheeler organized a group of 5 adults and 4 kids to ride from Armidale to South West Rocks. The original 210 km ride took them through beautiful forests, across the escarpment and down to the beautiful blue waters of the Macleay River and South West Rocks.
What began as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Program project has grown each year raising funds to promote Cancer Awareness, Prevention and funding Research towards a Cure.
Over the last three years the Guyra Community has raised over $36,820 to fight Cancer, out of this $8,258 has come directly back to benefit the residents of Guyra by supporting Can Assist, the MPS Palliative Care Unit and the purchase of an Electric Bed for the MPS.
The “tour” is truly an adventure, not only for the riders but for the countless people volunteering their time and services to enable this event to be the wonderful success that it has become.
We will all be touched by Cancer in some way or another, but we can all do something to fight this disease. Whether you simply purchase a raffle ticket, come to one of our functions or join the Guyra Cycling team as a rider or supporter, everything counts. If we all play a small part, together we will contribute to finding a cure. Last year our community contributed $15,321, let’s see if this year we can match that amount or raise more.
If you are interested in how you can help, or you want to find out more about our ride we will be holding an Information and Registration Evening at Rafters, from 3pm on February 21. There will be a Sausage Sizzle and Trash and Treasure Sale, with proceeds going towards the Guyra Cycling Tour de Rocks Team.
We will also be commencing weekend rides from this weekend for those interested in improving their health and wellbeing. These rides will be excellent for building endurance towards riding to South West Rocks, so even if you haven’t ridden for a while dust off your bikes and come and enjoy some fun and friendship.
