The Australian Government will provide more than $20.6 million to local governments in the New England Electorate this financial year, part of a total of $2.3 billion under the Financial Assistance Grant programme.

Under the Financial Assistance Grant programme Councils in the New England Electorate will receive a second quarter payment of $5,180,587 in untied funding.
Guyra Shire Council will receive $260,891, Armidale Dumaresq Council $496,453, Glen Innes Severn Council $460,052, Gunnedah Shire Council $515,923, Inverell Shire Council $678,627, Liverpool Plains Shire Council $424,230, Tamworth Regional Council $1,238,703, Tenterfield Shire Council $538,513, Uralla Shire Council $291,698, and Walcha Shire Council $260,302.
Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said that councils have the flexibility to spend the money according to local priorities, which not only build vital infrastructure but also support local businesses and create jobs in their Communities.
“The Federal Government’s Financial Assistance Grant programme gives councils flexibility to allocate much needed funds to projects that will meet the needs of each community,” Mr Joyce said.
“The Coalition Government believes that Canberra doesn’t always know best,” Mr Joyce said. “The Councillors and management of a local council know what their community’s priorities are.
