Fred Starr and his daughter Anne entered a team of four paddock reared, unled bulls, and stormed through the judging to take out single intermediate champion bull, champion pen of three bulls and grand champion Hereford bull.

A total of 84 horned and polled bulls were presented for judging on Thursday, July 23 at the 70th annual Glen Innes Hereford Bull Sale at the Glen Innes saleyards.

The intermediate and grand champion bull, Foxforth Jarvis J55 (H), was sired by Mawarra Unrivalled and out of Foxforth Honey 11.

The July 2013-drop bull weighed 1005kg, scanned at 13mm on the rump, 9mm on the rib, had an eye muscle area of 130sqcm, a scrotal circumference of 40cm and an average daily gain of 1.37kg.

Judge Jim Gunn, Sevenbardot, Bylong, NSW, described the bull as possessing frame, a good attitude and athleticism.

“This bull is perfectly prepared and will leave outstanding females and bulls,’’ Mr Gunn said.

Vendor Fred Starr had sold at the Glen Innes sale for about 20 years with much success but returned after a four-year break.

Mr Starr said there had been plenty of pre-sale interest in the bulls with the cattle market and widespread rain pointing to a positive industry outlook. 

The grand champion bull, Foxforth Jarvis J55 was sold for $7000 to Old Farm Pastoral Company, Glen Innes.

A total of 59 bulls and heifers were sold from 88 offered for a gross of $274,500 and average of $4652.

In the break-up, 55 bulls topped at $30,000, grossed $266,500 and averaged $4845.
