Guyra United travelled to Glen Innes on Saturday, and the coach was quietly confident the team would come away with a win coming off their best performance the week before with a 2-1 win over former, yes FORMER, competition leaders Ex Services.

The team was missing a few vital players but I wasn’t worried because I have been really impressed with how our younger players have stepped up to the challenge in the last few games. This was no exception this game.
Starting brilliantly, Guyra looked to be very dangerous. We pressed forward with ease, using short, sharp passes to run our opposition off their feet. This resulted in an early goal from Stevie Mac.
The whole team was strong in the first half. Braden Sole was solid in defence along with Vinnie Abayan and Mason Harman. These three stopped any chance that Glen had to score with ease.
Second grade transitioned the ball well, coming from great movement and control within our midfield from Logan Stanley, Troy Martin and Brodie Harman the standouts for the first half. Guyra went into the break 2-0 up.
At half time I was very pleased with the side’s performance. The only thing I could see us doing wrong was giving too many through balls, and you know that when you have to tell your team to cut down on opportunities in attack and play a bit smarter they are doing something right.
Second half started a little more slowly. Our defence and midfield seemed to fall apart slightly, maybe from a result of fatigue. Glen Innes scored a quick, soft goal. However, this probably worked against Glen as it sparked the second grade side up.
A penalty in the opposition’s goal box saw an opportunity for Troy Martin to take a dot shot. Striking this perfectly, Troy gave the side a 3-1 lead.
Fatigue again seemed to hit Guyra. Our backs couldn’t land a header for $1million. This caused unnecessary running and wore them out.
A slow defence allowed a Glen Striker to slot another one away. We weren’t going to lose from here though. Guyra snapped straight back. It took three good passes and a run from Brodie Harman who provided a beautiful cross to Jake Ellis where a lovely shot was finished.
4-2 up with 15 to go we were in a comfortable position. Stevie Mac added a last goal to seal the deal leaving Guyra the win 5-2.
Brodie Harman grabbed another 3 points after an outstanding performance; Braden Sole picked up 2 points from his solid performance in defence as well as in the halves and 1 point went to Vinnie Abayan who had a great game in defence as well.
We now have a two week rest for the school break, so rest up and be ready to get back into it.
