On Wednesday June 24, as a result of investigations into the recent break and enter at Guyra Central School, Police from Guyra, with the assistance of Armidale Police, intercepted and stopped a vehicle from Guyra that was entering Armidale. The vehicle was found to contain two adult females, and two thirteen year old boys, all being Guyra residents.
Located in the vehicle, were six Apple Ipads, an Apple MacBook Air laptop computer and $500 cash, all items suspected of being stolen from Guyra Central School.
Both thirteen year old boys admitted that they had broken and entered the school the night before, stealing the property. One of the boys was released, while the second boy was arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station where he was charged with the offence. Police later attended an address in Guyra where further property, including Apple Ipads, were recovered.
The thirteen year old boy charged, was bail refused by Police. He appeared before Armidale Children Court on June 25 where he was granted conditional bail to re-appear at Court on July 6.
Again, on Wednesday June 25, Police recovered another seven Ipads and other property, all stolen from the school.
The second thirteen year old boy has since been charged, and served with a Court attendance notice to appear at Court.
About 4pm on Wednesday June 24, Police attended a rural property on Reeves Road at Llangothlin after receiving a report of a theft. Initial investigations revealed that at about 2.30pm a male described as about 30-40 years old, six foot tall, thin build, red blondish hair, with a slight beard, and wearing dark pants and flannelette shirt, entered the property requesting fuel or money from the female resident, who was home alone at the time.
The female resident refused the request and the male left. Shortly after it was discovered that a little over $100 in cash had been stolen from the female’s purse. It was suspected the male had travelled across country from the New England Highway where his vehicle had been parked near Everetts Road. Police responded to several sightings of the male, but he avoided detection.
Again at 9pm Police returned to the location, this time near Tubbamurra Road. On this occasion a 43 year old Tenterfield man, who matched the earlier description was sighted. Police spoke with the man and he was found to be in possession of a knife and $110 cash. He was arrested and taken to Armidale Police Station, where he was questioned, and admitted the earlier theft of money from the Reeves Road property. The man was charged with stealing and possession of knife in public place. He was released and is due to appear before Tenterfield Local Court on July 13.
