More than 500,000 were expected to take part in the Australian Library and Information Association’s (ALIA) National Simultaneous Storytime. Each year, libraries all across Australia read the same book on the same day, at the same time.
This year the book selected was Aaron Blabey’s rhyming book The Brothers Quibble, a story about sibling rivalry and love familiar to children and adults alike.
Locally, the storytime was held at the Guyra Shire Library with special guest reader local police officer Constable Furphy.
This year’s event was coordinated by librarian Aimee Hutton with kids from Guyra Preschool, Bald Blair Public School, Guyra Central School and various parents and Family Day Carers.
“It was a great success,” Aimee said. “I would like to say a huge thankyou to Constable Furphy - he did a fantastic job and gave all of the kids a chance to ask questions about the book and/or about being a police officer.”
The children were all given a template for a crown as worn by the main character in the book, Spalding Quibble, and asked to decorate them and wear to the event.
The best three crowns were awarded a copy of the book to take home. The winners were Charlie Wilson, Caitlin Montague and Connor Montague.
