Three Guyra boys and their dads attended the NSW DPI and New England Trout Acclimatisation Society (NETAS) fishing Clinic at the Dutton Trout Hatchery on May 16. Ben and Ryan Jones and Alex Wolfenden represented Guyra. Girls and boys from all around the north attend to learn the art of tying fishing knots, a little bit about legal fish sizes, how to rig a line and the art of using a fly rod. The children then have a go at seeing how accurate they are at casting with a fly rod.

The best part of the day was after the sausage sizzle when everyone had a chance to try their skill at catching some brood trout in the dams at the hatchery. There was great excitement when everyone from little seven year-olds to the fourteen year-olds caught some excellent size trout up to three kilograms. Some attendees caught several fish and were able to share with the odd person who was unlucky.
The yells and expressions on faces told the story of how much the kids enjoyed it all. As well as the lessons each boy and girl went away with their very own rod, T shirt, hat and little tackle box as well as a copy of the fishing laws.
The NETAS members provide their time at least once or twice a year for these clinics and the kids (and parents) really enjoy the day.
