On Sunday March 8, three of our talented local players Jack Armitage, Dylan Sutton and Jack Lockyer played in the Group 19 under 13s rep side in Glen Innes against Group 2. Their first game of the rep season they were defeated but they are extremely proud of themselves with how far they have come and how well they played. Well done to all of the boys who tried out for Group 19 rep Team and congratulations to Jack, Dylan and Jack on making it into the Rep side.

The rest of the players had their first outing for the year in Inverell on Saturday, with some good results.
Under 8 - Guyra under 8s had their first hit out of the season last Saturday at the Inverell Gala day. The boys were bursting with excitement to kick off the season and it showed in the boy’s first game against Glen Innes. The boys had great defence with plenty of numbers in tackles and with the ball in hand the boys were just as good with some long runs leading to some good tries giving the boys a 12-4 win (no conversions on the gala day). The boys then faced a big Armidale side, but that did not discourage the boys at all. Getting stuck right in again the boys played their hearts out with some good attack and defense. A late Guyra try levelled the game to 12 all. The boys last game of the day was against Inverell and with the temperature increasing with this game it gave the Inverell side a bit of an advantage. However the heat didn’t stop our Guyra boys as they continued their form and team spirit from earlier in the day to jag a close 8 – 4 victory. All the boys played really well and should be very proud of themselves. This week’s encouragement award went to Darcy Heagney for his great defensive efforts well done Darcy.

Under 10- Last Saturday we travelled to Inverell for a carnival to start the 2015 season. First game Guyra played Glen Innes and we came away with an 8-0 win with all the boys finding their rhythm after the off season. We then played Armidale and came away with a 4-4 draw. All boys were finding it hard in the heat, but with 15 players plenty of rest was available. In the third game against Inverell East we came away with another 4-4 draw all the boys played well especially the new comers. Our encouragement awards went to Ben Reinke, Jack McCook and Tahmani Landsborough. Training in on every Thursday starting at 4.30 at the sporting complex for anyone interested.

Under 12 - The under 12s had some newcomers which is really great to see. The team was a little rusty to start with but as the day went on they started to improve. Playing Glen Innes first they had a draw, then the Armidale Rams in the second they were a little to strong winning by three tries. Then finishing with Inverell East the Guyra boys defeated them by five tries. The encouragement award went to Beau Casey. Congratulations on great day boys. We still need under 12s so please come to training on Thursday at 4.30.

Under 14 - It was an extremely hot day but the under 14s played well after a slow start and one shoulder injury to Jack Armitage. Thanks to few under 12’s who backed up to help us out. The winner of this week’s encouragement award was Ty Patterson who was always in the middle. Hope to see you all at training on Tuesday and Thursday at 4.30. We are still looking for more Under 14 players so come over to training and join in.

Junior League Tag 9 -13 – The girl’s league tag 9 – 13 had their first run on Saturday, not only for the 2015 season but also for Junior League. With the introduction of the team into Junior League they played well on the day. Although they were defeated in all three games they enjoyed the opportunity to get a feel of the game and rules. With the heat and a new game and team the girls gave it their best and had an awesome time meeting other teams and players. We are still looking for more girls to join our team so if you’re aged between 9 – 13 years of age then come to training on Thursday at 4.30 and join in the fun.
