It was a damp start to the Guyra Show which kicked off Friday morning with a full program of events. The rain impacted on numbers through the gate, particularly on Friday, but the Show went ahead with some events rescheduled and rehoused.

The official proceedings on Friday night were moved indoors allowing for a more intimate gathering. In fact the Community Hall played host to not one, but three openings.
The doors to the newly renovated kitchen were opened in an official capacity by Guyra Citizen of the Year Bob Vidler, Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall and Member for New England Barnaby Joyce.
The 2015 Show was the first test for the new facilities and while there were a few teething problems, the kitchen was deemed a great improvement.
The second opening was the unveiling of artworks which were commissioned to adorn the walls. Seven local artists donated their time and talents to create individual panels which were pieced together to create a mural depicting the Guyra District.
A large crowd were on hand as the completed work was revealed in a joint effort by the artists who pulled away the covering.
The final official function was the opening of the Show and sashing of the Showgirl entrants and winners. 2015 Showgirl winner Stephanie Martin and Junior Showgirl Jasmin Ramage were officially sashed by last year’s winner Jess Grills.
President Ellen Newberry also awarded life membership of the Guyra Show Society to former President Rita Williams along with Bruce and Lydia Purcell, who are long time sponsors of the Showgirl competition. Elizabeth White and Baden Williams were honoured by being appointed as patrons.
After the slow start on Friday, a bigger crowd on Saturday boosted the overall attendance figures which were down on last year.
A full wrap up of show results will be published in coming weeks.
