The five year old gelding trained by Paul Grills had been fourth, second and third in his last three starts.
On Saturday, Luna Lang turned those into a win, taking out the John Deere Limited Class 3 Handicap (1600m).
“He’s looking magic and the run was magic,” said Grills’ wife, Angela.
She was in charge on Saturday, with Paul having a rare day at home. It was a “Girl’s Day Out,” Angela said.
“He was meant to run at Coffs Harbour on Friday, December 5 but it got washed out so we had to give him a run: It was a beautiful ride by Kassie Furness and she rode to instructions,” she said.
“I said to Kassie, at the 600m he’ll ride into his own race, ride with him and enjoy the journey,” which she did. He came home really strong.
Luna Lang was the second leg of a winning double for Furness.
Luna Lang is locally owned by Angela Grills, Belinda Lenehan, Wendy Jackson and Tammy Brooks along with Benita Johnson from Armidale, Charlie Grills from Holbrook and Adrian Sippel from Port Macqaurie.
