The day began in the community hall with market stalls, face painting and the most popular item of the day, the helium balloons. Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshal toured the hall and enjoyed a delicious lamb and gravy roll before drawing the 1st lucky door raffle. Mayor Hans Hietbrink also enjoyed the market stalls and talking to locals and preschool staff at the event before drawing the next lucky door prize.
Santa and his elf were highly anticipated and you could hear the children chanting his name all the way down the street. Santa made his grand entrance in the fire truck before sitting in his chair and Brooke Brennan taking Santa photos.
The competition was fierce in both the sumo wrestling arena and at the field games, with three legged races, egg and spoon races and sack races held in age groups. The field games were a hit, with the children itching to have a turn and win the great prizes.
A few Brave Guyra Locals were “dunked” in the celebrity water dunking. Matt Robinson, Murray Harman and Rodney Merrit sat anxiously in the chair while the eager children lined up to throw the balls at their target. It must have looked not too cold as there were quite a few bystanders, especially children who put their hands up and had a turn as well.
A Pro Roughy Muay Thai boxing demo drew the crowd inside and watched Ashley, Beck and Nick before little Riley loved showing his mates what he is made of.
Rebecca Williams led the line dancing group around the floor before Peter Cole sang a few Christmas carols. Saving Santa aired on the blow up screen to finish off a wonderful event.
A huge thankyou to the entire committee for their hard work and dedication, the staff from the centre for helping on the day, the Guyra Lions Club for running the hot chip and corn stand and lending the fairy floss machine.
To all of the husbands and males who lent us their muscle to set up and pack up the event, volunteers and family members who helped on the day in the kitchen, at the entry gate and at the popcorn machine and the bake sale. The day wouldn’t have happened without the amazing help we received from too many to mention. Also thankyou to the day’s sponsors who contributed to the event.
The day was a success and the children have not stopped talking about the Fair ever since. It was pleasing to put on an event that is based around the children and give them a fun day of games and laughs.
The committee has already sat down and planned to make this an annual event, with the Preschool Christmas Fair planning to be even bigger and better next year.
