If you thought November was hotter than usual you were right. Both the average maximum temperature of 25.5C and average minimum of 11.7C were the highest on record for Guyra for the month of November. Temperatures reached or exceeded 28C on eight days of the month.

A number of days with very warm north-westerly winds associated with trough systems combined with sunnier than normal conditions were the reasons for the unusually warm month. Temperature records for Guyra commenced in 1911 with a few gaps up until 1981.Only monthly averages are available from 1911 to 1965.
The month included the two hottest November days on record. November 15th and November 23rd both surpassed the previous record. Hot north-westerly winds ahead of a low pressure trough caused temperatures to soar to near record levels for November on the 15th with Guyra’s maximum of 32.0C the highest on record for November (daily records available from 1965). The previous highest November maximum was 31.6C on November 20, 2009.
Eight days later this record was broken again as hot north-westerly winds associated with another trough resulted in a maximum of 33.2C on November 23.
The November records follow what was the driest October for 63 years and the warmest October for 74 years. Rainfall to the end of November is well below average. So far this year Guyra has recorded just 528mm. Average rainfall to the end of November is 803mm. There is some good news on the horizon with thunderstorms predicted to persist over the coming week with falls ranging from 5-10mm and 20-40mm predicted.
