Guyra Branch of Can Assist concluded its year’s activities on a high note when it held its November dance. As usual the dance was attended by members of the Armidale Dance Group who had recently held a function in Armidale in support of Can Assist.

Earlier in the year Guyra Branch members had decided not to hold the September Ball in 2014 because of lack of numbers. Armidale then picked up the baton and planned a Spring Ball. Held on November 8 it was a great success both socially and financially. The following excerpt from their newsletter describes the night:
“Last Saturday night we held the Spring Ball with a ‘Pink Theme’ here in Armidale at O’Connor. The Venue looked a picture and the 62 guests came wearing something “Pink”. We had some lovely dresses and hair adornments, pink ties, pink butterflies and flowers and even some pink hair and the most glorious pink beard.
Congratulations to those enthusiastic and dedicated people on the Dance Group Committee. You did a fabulous job pulling it all together and thank you to other members of the dance group who were only too willing to help in any way they could.
Special thanks to Greg and Jenny Wild. Jenny comes up with some great decorating ideas and she was the one to suggest we use “butterflies” in the decorations. She and Greg made a template and we held a working bee at their home a few weeks ago to make them. They did look rather spectacular floating above us for the night.
We had dancers from far and wide – Inverell, Guyra, Tamworth, Manilla, from over on the coast and our own dancers from Armidale and we all had a top night.
All proceeds from the night were donated to Guyra Branch of Can Assist.”
At the Guyra dance on November 22 Gwenda Rowbottom, on behalf of the Armidale Dance Group, presented a cheque for $1,500 to Guyra Can Assist president Bill Wicks. Guyra Can Assist wishes to acknowledge the support of our Armidale friends: ‘their cheerful generosity is remarkable. The money will be used to support local cancer sufferers’.
