Last Saturday night the Guyra Community Hall turned into what in Ancient Rome would have been called the Colosseum with the Grenade Fighter Series launched. We had the muscles and we had the beauty and we had a crowd ready to be thrilled.
Muay Thai
Zac Rolff (Pro Roughy Gym) and Dakota Bradberry (Nick King’s Lifestyle Centre) started the evening with an exhibition match.
These boys are young, but they know how to warm up a crowd. The fight was action packed and did not disappoint.
55kg – Eunice Blair (Pro Roughy Gym) and Kim Mitchell (Nick King’s Lifestyle Centre):
Next we had the girls show us how it was done. Kim seemed tired towards the end and I’m sure if the match had lasted one more minute it would have been Eunice’s night. This one was a draw, folks.
74.5kg – Matt McLean (Pro Roughy Gym) and Harley Hutchen (Nick King’s Lifestyle Centre)
Matt McLean put up a good fight with one too many twirls. Harley won this one.
Boxing – 80kg – Ben Bentley (Nick King’s Lifestyle Centre) and Oscar Adams (One World Boxing Academy)
Next match was boxing with two out of town boys.
The punches were flying and the sweat was pouring. Ben Bentley from Inverell lost to Oscar Adams from Newcastle.
We were then entertained with more Muay Thai boxing in the 60kg division with Alby Behrens (Lovelocks Gym) from Armidale against Ariel Nouarro (Nick King’s Lifestyle Centre) from Inverell who won this match.
The 66.67kg division continued the Muay Thai with Evan Brittan (CKO) winning against Armidale opponent Jason Armfield (Lovelocks Gym).
The 75.5kg division saw Tim Blair (Nick King’s Lifestyle Centre) from Inverell, who had lots of flair, against Newcastle lad Tim Shelts (One World Boxing). This was a good fight to watch with plenty of action. Even though he was thrown to the floor, Tim won this match.
Now it was time for the heavy hitters as the crowd was given an Exhibition Match with Nick “B52” Browning representing Pro Roughy Gym against Newcastle boy, Jack Clements (One World Boxing) in the 85kg class.
These boys are powerful and there was no holding back on the punches.
Guyra got to see boxing in action and it was full of adrenalin.
Nick won the match for Pro Roughy.
The main event for the evening was Australia Vs Thailand with local boy James MacDonald representing Pro Roughy Gym coming in at 65kg against Jaikom “Rock” Paitoon from Thailand also coming in at 65Kg so the weights were equally matched.
Our local lad had the crowd behind him. All other fights had been three rounds but the main event was four by three minute rounds.
This was a tough battle filled with plenty of action, lots of sweat and punches that were hard hitting and caused damage to both opponents. James had a longer reach than The Rock but The Rock used other tactics to try and tire James MacDonald towards the end. A punch landed to the nose of James drew blood and I am sure both boxers have bruises days after the event. (From a mother’s perspective I was happy when the last bell dinged and it was over.)
The judges awarded all four rounds to James MacDonald. The crowd cheered and there were smiles all around especially from the Pro Roughy Gym contestents.
This was a fantastic event put on by Ashley and Bec White.
The Grenade Fighting Series delivered entertainment, action, adrenalin and a sense of pride in what can be achieved by a person with vision who wants Guyra to have the best.
Thanks go to Ashley White and the Pro Roughy team.
