The high temperatures were the result of a low pressure trough over inland New South Wales which directed very warm north-westerly winds over most of the state. The hot weather is expected to continue this weekend with temperatures in the mid 30s followed by a cool change early next week.
With only 12.8mm of rain recorded so far this month, Guyra is also on track for its driest October on record. Currently October 2006 was the driest with just 23.4mm. The average October rainfall is 75.2mm.
The hot dry conditions have resulted in the suspension of all fire permits in the Armidale, Guyra, Uralla and Walcha LGAs until the end of the month. The suspension will be reviewed on Friday October 31.
Landholders are reminded that it is illegal to light hazard reduction fires in the open whilst permits are suspended
