The Baldersleigh Brigade was granted a GPS unit valued at $580 while the Lyndhurst Dumaresq Brigade was provided with twenty chairs, two folding tables and two metal storage cabinets.
Richard Gordon from the Baldersleigh Brigade said their GPS unit will be put to good use on the category 9 tanker which is used in more rugged terrain.
“It’s a top of the line GPS unit which shows us the fire trails and other details which will improve safety for our brigade members and lead to a more rapid response to fires,” Mr Gordon said.
“The GPS unit will also be valuable to the brigade if you have to go out of area to fight fires, as it will reduce the risk of getting lost during firefighting operations.
“I would like to thank the RFSA for their support in providing the GPS unit.”
Approximately $1.7 million dollars worth of equipment is being provided to Rural Fire Brigades, Support Brigades and Districts across NSW.
This year’s grant package is the largest in the history of the RFSA Grant Scheme, with close to 600 applications received from all four corners of the state.
RFSA President Tim Arnott said the funding capacity of individual brigades in NSW, particularly smaller brigades in rural and remote locations can be tough.
“Brigades are often in need of items that are not covered by direct Government and Council funding so the Grant Scheme offers a means of financial assistance to ensure the men and woman of the Rural Fire Service have access to items and equipment that make performing their duties just that little bit easier,” Mr Arnott said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all community members who purchase tickets in NSW RFSA raffles.
“It’s as a direct result of their contribution that the RFSA can fund support services such as the Grant Scheme to the benefit of volunteer fire fighters across NSW.”
Local Rural Fire Brigades will have the opportunity to apply for grants again in 2015.
