The Competition aims to find a young female Ambassador for rural NSW and the agricultural show movement aged between 18 and 25. The winning Showgirl of each local Show Society is selected by a panel of judges via a casual interview process, and remains Showgirl until the next year’s Show. Her role involves official and informal duties locally nationally, and overseas, depending on her progression in the competition. These could include opening a Show, public speaking throughout the year and presenting prizes for winners in agricultural events.
Contestants are judged on personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, local and general knowledge, presentation and speech. In addition to their potential ambassadorial qualities, contestants are also judged on their involvement in their community and local affairs.
The opportunities provided by participation in the Guyra Showgirl Competition are endless. Our entrants will each have the opportunity to hone their interview skills and meet a number of community members, as well invite their families to join them for a presentation evening, with our winner announced in January. The January announcement of our Showgirl will allow Guyra’s ambassador time to prepare for the Zone Final Competition, held just before our Show on the 20th and 21st February 2015.
In a bid to open the competition to a number of entrants, the Guyra Show Society is also inviting interest in contestants for a Junior Showgirl Competition for entrants aged between 14 – 17. This will be judged concurrently with the Senior Showgirl Competition, and is designed to provide interview practice and networking skills to younger participants.
If you think you would like to enter the competition, or know somebody who might, please contact Edna Mendes on 0439 424 867 or Joy Saunders on 0419 269 529, or simply pop into GALA for more information! Entrants need to register their interest by Friday December 5.
