Council has drafted an Enforcement and Prosecutions Policy. This will be placed on public exhibition for a period of 28 days and we welcome comments and feedback on this policy up until close of business on 27 November, 2014 before it is formally adopted by Council.
This draft policy can also be viewed at Council’s Administration Building or on Council’s website at www.guyra.nsw.gov.au .
Guyra Saleyards Upgrade
From January 2015, Guyra Associated Agents will be welcoming Armidale agents to the Council owned saleyards they operate in Guyra. This increase in lamb and sheep sales in Guyra will result in the Guyra yards becoming one of the biggest selling centres north of Tamworth.
In order to accommodate the increased number of users at these yards, the Guyra Associated Agents will be undertaking some improvement works and Council has resolved to contribute to some ancillary works to improve these facilities.
This is an exciting development for Guyra and our local agents should be congratulated for their hard work in negotiating this new arrangement.
Highly Commended Heart Foundation Award
In August 2014 our Healthy Highlanders program was named as the NSW winner in the ‘Councils with populations of 15,000 or less’ category. This win made us eligible for the Heart Foundation’s National Award in the same category.
At the Gala dinner held at the Local Government Conference in Coffs Harbour on 20 October 2014, the Heart Foundation announced the winners of the National Heart Foundation Awards and Guyra Shire Council received the National Highly Commended Award for their Healthy Highlanders program.
This is wonderful recognition of a very successful initiative and we share this award with everyone in the community who got behind this program and made it such a great success.

Asbestos Awareness Month
Council is supporting Asbestos Awareness Month this November, in an effort to ensure that homeowners, renovators, tradespeople and others in the community know where asbestos may be found in most homes.
Council suggests that anyone considering undertaking works on premises built or renovated prior to 1987, visit www.asbestosawareness.com.au, to learn where asbestos may be found in the home and how to manage it safely.
