The site of the new tomato farm took on a new look on Wednesday, with workers donning pink attire in support of breast cancer awareness.

There was overwhelming support for the initiative by Hawkins Civil Constructions (HCC), who made the offer to donate $100 for every worker who purchased a Pink Hi-Vis work shirt.
Organiser of the fundraiser Natalie Dobson said that it was impressive to see the level of support by workers. So much so that all 50 pink hi-vis shirts were purchased, resulting in $5000 being donated to the Cancer Council by HCC and a further $500 added by the Costa Group.
HCC is a Brisbane based company who have been working on the site since April this year.
Manager Greg Hawkins presented a cheque for $5500 to Paul Hobson from the Cancer Council. Mr Hobson, praised the intitiative and said that it was great to see so many men getting behind the cause.
October is Australia’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and provides an opportunity to focus on breast cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis.
In the Northern NSW region, it is predicted that, by 2016, 350 people will be diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in a single year, with 73 deaths expected
All funds raised go towards vital cancer research, prevention programs, advocacy, and information and support services.
