The Minister was in the area to highlight the risks to businesses and consumers who are being targeted by scammers.
“Every year, Australians lose millions of dollars to the activities of scammers who target people of all backgrounds, ages and income levels with online, mail, door-to-door and telephone scams,’’ Mr Mason-Cox said.
“The best defence against scammers is awareness.”
Mr Marshall urged all residents to be extremely cautious if approached by an offer out of the blue.
“Scams are the ultimate in trickery and deception,” Mr Marshall said.
“Ignore suspicious emails, letters, house visits, phone calls or text messages.
“If an offer sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.”
