Glen Innes resident, community advocate and teacher Mercurius Goldstein will represent The Greens in the NSW election next year. Mr Goldstein said the Greens will offer Northern Tablelands citizens a real alternative to politics in our region. He said that while the other parties are tied up worrying about their next ICAC appearance, Greens are working with rural communities to deliver clean air, clean water and clean politics.”

“The Greens are already supporting rural communities at all levels of government. Federally, it was a Greens Senator who first stood with farmers on the Liverpool Plains against CSG mining,” he said. “It was The Greens democracy4sale website and our State politicians who have set the scene for changes to NSW political donations. And it is only The Greens who are standing up to save our TAFEs, our universities and offer our children a 100% renewable future.”
Mr Goldstein has a family connection with the Northern Tablelands has been involved in the community; organising local clean-ups for the Glen Innes Climate Actioneers, campaigning to save TAFE, advocating for the New England Rail Trail proposal and contributing as a member of community arts groups.
“It’s been wonderful to get to know this region again properly. My daily work as a teacher keeps me in touch with hundreds of local families, and I find in every town there is a sense of community that holds us together,” Mr Goldstien said. “This will be a myth-busting, positive campaign to show how Greens policies will support rural communities in Northern Tablelands.”
“Our region does well when it’s part of a live political contest, but it languishes if we are seen as a safe seat. We can’t let the Nationals take us for granted.”
