Twenty-six serving police officers and staff were awarded with National and NSW Police Medals and bravery commendations. Pastor Randall Gauger of Inverell’s Danthonia community was also invested as a NSW Police Chaplain.
The ceremony took place in front of local Police, friends and family of the decorated officers, Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall, representatives of the region’s local councils, New England LAC Commander Superintendent Fred Trench and Western Region Commander Assistance Commissioner Geoff McKechnie APM.
Mr Marshall said the region was “extremely well served” by its local police who put their lives on the line each day to keep the community safe.
“We’re very fortunate to have such a professional and community-focussed police force here in the Northern Tablelands and I congratulate all the officers and staff who have been recognised for their exceptional service,” he said.
“The recent crime statistics show that crime in this region is stable or dropping in the 17 crime categories, which is testament to the work of our police, together with the community.
“Community policing is something this command has embraced as part of its culture and this alone stands the police attached to the New England Command apart from their colleagues around the State.”
Among the award recipients were Guyra Sergeant Jason Burton who received the NSW Police Medal second clasp and Tingha Sergeant Jay Tuckwell who received the Western Region Commendation, NSW Police Medal.
