Congratulations to the under 10s on making the grand final which was played in Bingara on Saturday. They were unlucky going down to Inverell. Congratulations to Wade and the boys on an outstanding season.
Our under 8s finished on top of the table, only losing one game all year - well done boys and girls.
Our 12s, 14s and league tag girls all missed out on the finals but they should all be proud of the effort and the manner in which they played all year, sometimes short on numbers. So well done to all teams.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our valuable sponsors as without your support we would not be able to have football for the kids in our community. Thanks to our major sponsor, the Guyra Bowling Club and our other sponsors: Coffee Club Armidale, Shamrock Shearing, Clean Cut Shearing, McLeod’s Butchery, Dasha’s Hardware, Topcoat Painting, Highland Quarries, Guyra Bakery and Kirks IGA.
I would like to thank anyone who has helped in the running of the club throughout the year - your help is much appreciated.
Our next major event is our presentation to be held at the Bowling Club at 4:30pm on October 11, where we are having a BBQ dinner and disco. We will also be drawing our raffle first prize which is a signed and framed Petero Civoniceva Guyra Crusty Spuds jumper. Tickets for this are available at McLeods’s Butchery. I hope to see everyone there as all players will receive this year’s playing jumper and we will be unveiling next year’s playing strip. See you all there.

On Saturday the Under 10s travelled to Bingara for the grand-final. It was a beautiful spring day and the boys were pumped ready to play against the team from Inverell Wests.
The boys were keen to improve their record against the only team they hadn’t beaten this year. They started well but were placed on the back foot from the kick-off with Inverell scoring in the first five minutes.
Guyra was forced to produce tackle after tackle before they got the chance to even the score. It was neck and neck as they headed into half time, the score 18-12.
The Guyra team kept their heads high as they came out firing in the second half, determined to keep up their defence and hopefully score a few tries as well. But it wasn’t to be, with a few controversial calls at critical times leading to Inverell tries.
Despite the bad calls, the Guyra boys kept their heads and their cool, and concentrated on closing the score line running in three more tries in the second half.
Jake scored a few good tries, running the length of the field to put one in under the posts and Alistair out stepped the defence to run one in the corner. However Inverell proved to be too strong taking the win 42-26.
A big thank you to all the Guyra supporters who travelled to Bingara to watch the game and cheer our boys on.
Thank you to Jamie Youman and Jason Campbell for their great help with providing coaching support and league safe. Thank you to Kath Brazier and Donna Davidson for taking photos all year and to Gina Lockyer who chased sponsors and for organising the banner for our final game.
As always, thank you to the under 8s who have backed up all year as reserves for our team. There is a lot of talent in this young side and I hope to see them playing again next year. Congratulations boys - you have played well to get to the finals. Good luck next time.
