The work that Guyra St Vincent de Paul undertakes with people in crisis and need is at risk of no longer being carried out in Guyra; in other words, people who need help will need to contact St Vincent de Paul Armidale Care & Support office directly. This would mean that our friends in need would more than likely have to find a way to travel to Armidale for help.

In the past we have conducted interviews, advocacy, support payments, food issue, information, referrals and any other services from our Conference office located down the side of the Guyra Vinnies Retail Centre. For the last year or so these interviews have been conducted by only a small number of Members in a couple of locations in Guyra, but we are no longer able to operate in this way.
We need people from our Guyra community who are prepared to join our St Mary of the Angels, Guyra Conference; this will help us continue to operate a St Vincent de Paul Support service in our town.
Guyra needs your help. If you have a will to help others, are non-judgmental, are compassionate, able to provide solutions for people, can give a few hours every couple of months and are happy to attend a one-hour meeting with your colleagues every couple of weeks – then we need you. You can be of any faith or no faith at all and you will be trained – you only need to be willing.
There will be a get together at the Guyra Vinnies Retail Centre on Saturday September 20 at 10am for morning tea, followed by an information session on the work that is undertaken and how you can contribute your wonderful skills to this good work. We envisage we will be finished by 1pm. Any contribution to this discussion is welcome. The session will be facilitated by members, from Head Office, who are skilled in this process.
Before that meeting and on this coming Saturday September 13, we will have a stall at the St Mary of the Angels Parish Fete – please come along and talk to us if you want further information on the work of the Conference; we have some give-aways for you. We are intending to also have a Vinnies Pop-Up Stall at the Fete – come and bag a bargain!
We’d love you to be part of the solution, so Guyra St Vincent de Paul can maintain its support to this community and continue the great history we have helping our own. We look forward to seeing you.
Call Fr Anthony 6779 1036 or Chris 0411 807 046 to confirm your place at the information session.
