Police from the New England LAC are appealing to members of the public who may have information in relation to a series of thefts from motor vehicles in Guyra over the past few days.

Between 8pm on Tuesday September 2 and 7am on Wednesday September 3, 2014 a vehicle was left unlocked with the key in the ignition parked in the driveway at an address on Guyra Road, Guyra. The ignition key was stolen.
Between 11pm on Tuesday September 2 and 5.30am on Wednesday September 3 two vehicles which were parked in Ebor Rd, Guyra had ignition keys removed. Both vehicles were unlocked. Similar incidents occurred at houses in Ollera Street and Ryanda Street, Guyra during the same time period.
Between 6.30pm on Tuesday September 2 and 5.30am on Wednesday September 3 a Ford Fiesta was stolen from Coventry Street, Guyra. The keys had been left in the vehicle. This car was recovered near a local stock route.
Police are also investigating a break and enter at a house in Manse Street, Guyra in the early hours of Wednesday morning. About 1.30am, the occupant disturbed a person in the kitchen of the residence. This person ran off and was last seen heading east on Manse Street, Guyra. It was discovered that a car key had been stolen. Police believe this incident is linked to the thefts from the motor vehicles.
Acting Inspector Stuart Gray from Armidale Police Station said, “These crimes are opportunistic and the person or persons responsible have taken advantage of low security measures. They serve as a reminder to members of the community to lock up vehicles and homes, even if you are absent for a short time.”

UPDATE: Investigations into these matters led to Police identifying three 12 year old Guyra boys and a 14 year old Guyra boy, all believed responsible for the matters. On Thursday September 5, two of these boys were interviewed at Guyra Police Station, where they fully admitted to the range of thefts, including the theft of the motor vehicle and breaking into the Manse Street house. Police also recovered from the boys various amounts of property, including, keys, wallets, torches, knives, and a laptop computer. At this stage investigations are continuing, and the four boys continue to assist Police.
Police still hold a small amount of recovered property which has not been identified as belonging to anyone. If anyone believes they are missing anything from their vehicles, please contact Guyra Police Station.
