P & C President Anita Hunter said that they decided to do something new and exciting this year by hiring the services of Kevin Kiley of Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Farm from QLD.
Mr Kiley’s team will coordinate all aspects of racing the piglets including Calcutta, Auctioning, Sweep and Raffles. Damien and Kylie Sutton from the Royal Hotel, have kindly donated their services to run the bar at the showground.
“Mr Kiley will supply piglets and a very entertaining obstacle course for piglets to race in,” she said. “It is a fun for ALL ages event run during the day.”
Anita said that Mr Kiley and his pig racing team have been very successful with past fundraising events all over Australia.
“He has been seen on Australia’s got Talent and on Better Homes and Gardens,” she said. “The aim of this fundraising event is to raise much needed funds to replace out dated sporting equipment and improve facilities in the school farm.”
There will be six races on the day with the first race starting at 1pm, so there will be plenty of time to come after morning sport.
Karan Wildman has been very busy gathering sweep/raffles items and large auction items and has come up with some amazing prizes. A Gas BBQ valued at $800, $100 worth of sugar cane mulch and large esky will be up for grabs too.
Sweeps will involve selling tickets before each race, then a ticket will be drawn for each pig in the race, the winner is the ticket holder of the pig that wins the race. The Calcutta will involve auctioning each pig before each race, all money is then pooled, half goes to winner and half goes to Guyra Central fund raising.
There will be numerous stalls and raffles. Jo Cameron is organising a ‘Pink Piggy Stall’ instead of ‘White Elephant Stall’, anyone wishing to donate second hand toys, DVD’s and books, please drop at the school.
“We are enormously grateful to the entire Guyra Community who have sponsored pigs and races and donated items for this event,” Anita said.
“It never ceases to amaze me what a wonderfully supportive and generous little community we live in, especially in these financially tough times. Come for a laugh and take the edge off the drought.
“If it rains we will be celebrating regardless as don’t forget ‘Piggy’s Love Their Mud’!”
