The whole of Guyra Central School, family and friends gathered in the Bill Wicks’ Gymnasium last Thursday to celebrate the achievements of public education during our Education Week Assembly.

Special guest and Hall of Fame recipient, Ron “Rowdy” McLean inspired the students and staff with his four main rules on life. Own your attitude, take responsibility for your choices, always do what you say you will and stick at it. The Snowball was an outstanding success with performances by our very talented students and staff. Highlights included the teachers’ band “The Alternate Merchants” singing “Losing My Religion” and “The Best Day of My Life”. Austin Youman and Mason Harman were our hosts. Thank you to the judges including Miss Townsend, Ms Reim, Kasey Gaukroger, Huw Knox and Mrs Deb Merritt.
They had the difficult task of deciding on the best performances. First place went to the Secondary Dance Group, second place to Paige Ramage for her “Dancing Queen” piece, equal third place to Ty Patterson for his didgeridoo recital and Millie Roberts danced with Mackenzie Ramage to “Runaway Baby”. Well done to everyone who participated.
The thrilling 100m handicapped sprint was held in ideal conditions on the school oval. Heat 1 was won by Stephanie Cameron, 2nd Zakiya Blair, 3rd Hallie Ramage, 4th Huw Knox. Heat 2 was won by Linley “Usain Bolt” Ryan, 2nd Austin Youman, 3rd Matthew McIntyre, 4th Carly Harman. In the final race 4th Linley “Usain Bolt” Ryan, 3rd Hallie Ramage, 2nd Zakiya Blair. First place for the 2014 Guyra Gift, congratulations Stephanie Cameron.
