The inaugural Guyra Piggy Picnic Races will be an event for all the family and has already attracted much interest.
Sponsored pigs will have a personalised jacket for the whole event, which can be taken home as a souvenir. The aim of this fundraising event is to raise much needed funds to replace out-dated sporting equipment and improve facilities on the school farm.
P & C President Anita Hunter said that they are immensely thankful to Robin Godlonton and her team who have been very busy sewing eight beautifully tailored piggy jackets for the Guyra Piggy Picnic Races.
“The pigs will be sure to fly in these designer jackets,” Anita said. “We are also incredibly grateful to our local Guyra businesses which have sponsored our eight piglets for the races.”
The major race sponsors who have come on board are Guyra Fuels, Guyra District Veterinary Services, McFarlane Building, New England Mutual, Tomato Exchange Pty Ltd, Professionals Guyra, Tibbsey’s Gravel, Grader & Bulk Haulage and Guyra Fourways Service Station.”
There will be lots of activity on the day including sweeps which will involve selling tickets before each race, then a ticket will be drawn for each pig in the race. The winner is the ticket holder of the pig that wins the race.
There will also be a Calcutta for each race which will involve auctioning each pig prior to the start. All money is then pooled with half the proceeds going to the winner and half going to Guyra Central fund raising.
The P & C are also looking for stall holders to participate in the day. If anyone wants to conduct a stall you can phone Anita
on 0437 794 242 or by email hahunter@bigpond.com.
“What a great way to welcome Spring and end the long cold winter,” Anita said. “We look forward to seeing you all there.”
