Well I don’t know about anybody else but I, for one, am certainly a little bit over the cold blustery conditions that seem to greet us every single Saturday of this soccer season. Now I don’t know who is to blame; modern day new testament God, or your associated favourite thunder God? – Zeus for those Greek enthusiasts, Thor for you more Nordic leaning folk or, my personal favourite, Taranis the Pan-Celtic rain provider of old.

Perhaps it just has to be put down to the new bad boy on the scene and the Greens personal favourite “Global Warming.” Another cold, grey, windy and rain threatening Saturday with no real precipitation in sight, It would be lovely to actually see it rain for once not just watch those moisture laden clouds pass overhead yet again.
Missing a lot of reports again this week folks. You know the drill, please just drop me a small note via txt or email to muzleah@gmail.com or at 0412 661 930 thanks.
Now to those wondrous Under 16 Pumas.
(I have been taught in Management Cert 4 to always do the old – positive – negative – positive feedback thingamajig, so here goes.) The Pumas had a nice 3–1 win over the Walcha Dragons last Saturday (positive). However, they started this match lethargic, non-committed and as if they just wanted to be anywhere else but on the field at Jack Vallance.
Now I have been told from various sources that at times I can be a little hard on the Pumas but I must say that once again communication was, in the first half, almost non-existent. The backs were lethargic, the halves were ineffective and the forwards were patchy at best. There seemed a certain malaise about the entire side; they were certainly lucky to be ahead at half time 2–1 (negative).
I don’t know what the team psychologist, Mrs Stanley had to say to them at half time, but the Pumas came out after the break a completely different team. Without the incredible goal keeping from the Walcha goalie the score would have been far greater for the Pumas. With the inclusion of Vincente Abayan, who was instrumental in getting the talk going and had an outstanding game of soccer, both in goals in the first half and in the field in the second, the backs started to play much better soccer, particularly Brianna Merritt who was fantastic in the latter stages of the game.
The halves held their structure far better as well. The forwards, it must be stated, played consistently throughout the game with some fantastic through balls being provided by Brodie Harman, Kelsie Youman, live wire Cody Martin and Kourtnee McFarlane.
Scoring all three goals for the Pumas last week was Darcy Jackson who was once again always where he needed to be when the time was right. Tully Jackson has been playing some great soccer this season with his positional awareness exceptional (Positive).
Points this week were awarded to Vinnie Abayan 3, Cody Martin 2 and Tully Jackson 1.
After a torrid single round following on from the three week school holiday break, the Under 12 Dragons were fortunate to have the bye last week. They used this time to freshen up for the remainder of the season and get over a few niggling injury concerns.
Now the Titans actually played two games of soccer this past week; one game last Saturday against South Armidale Spiders coming away with a 2–1 win and then backing up with a top of the table clash against the undefeated TAS 12A’s on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon’s game was a catch up game due to TAS school holidays and was a closely fought encounter with the final score a 1-all draw.
Now my comments of last week in addressing Mrs Brennan’s lack of timely communication may have been a little strong, however, it did seem to garner a positive response. The Titans report pinged into my inbox approximately two minutes and ten seconds after the completion of play last Saturday. I was, of course, suitably impressed.
Benny Lennon and Sarah Rosten were goal scorers last Saturday in the 2–1 win, with points for that match going to: Jackson Clark 3, Ben Lennon and Braiden Crawford 2, Nicholas Graham and Gemma Sisson 1.
Playing against the top of the table TAS 12A’s side Tuesday afternoon, the Titans were unfortunate to be behind on the score board after an unlucky Benny Lennon’s hand ball gifted the TAS side a direct free kick late in the first half. Guyra drew level with a second half shot almost from half-way from Taylor Brennan.
Coach Brennan was very impressed with his side’s composure with points going to: Taylor Brennan and Carly Harman 3, Jackson Clark 2, and Benny Lennon 1. Many thanks to Kade Stanley and Craybob Hope for filling in on Saturday and for Tori Brazier who helped out with numbers on Tuesday.
The Under 10 Grizzleys played a home game away against Walcha last weekend. Playing very well until Walcha scored their first goal, the Grizzleys seemed to “put their heads down” and need to remain positive throughout the game.
Scoring for Guyra was Henry Starr, with much of the upfront attack beautifully managed by Calvin Reinke who is playing some quality soccer. Playing well in the midfield was Mathew Williams with some good passing and solid defence. Chloe Brown had a good game in defence, with the coach stating that if she outlaid as much attitude to her soccer as she does to her coach she would be sensational.
The Rockets up against TAS had a very closely fought and intense game with some great soccer being played by both sides. Robert Sisson had a great game up front with the ball being taken from end to end. The Rockets played some very committed and fast paced soccer which pleased their coach.
A bye this week for the Under 10 Rockets and I believe at this stage that the Under 10 Grizzleys will forfeit their match this coming Saturday due to 90% of the team being away on a school camp. There will also be no team available for the Jack Vallance Carnival on Sunday as previously stated, sorry for any confusion.
A hard day out on Saturday for the Under 9 Gladiators, who lifted somewhat in the second half to play some great soccer in difficult conditions. Best for the Gladiators were both of our goal keepers, Charlotte Burling and Emily Lockyer.
With only minimum numbers from which to create a side, the Under 8 Lil Caspers performed remarkably last Saturday playing some outstanding soccer. Scoring for the Lil Caspers were: Will Friend 4, Jack Lockyer 4, Cooper Wilson 2, Ben Reinke 1 and Jack McCook 1. Finlay Tibbs and Paige Ramage were unlucky not to add to this with some fantastic defence by the opposition denying them their chances.
A bye last Saturday for the Coyotes, another of our Guyra sides in desperate need of a rest from soccer.
A complete strike-out for the Under 7’s this week with no news on the Under 7 Strikers or Geckos, and the Galaxy having the bye.
A fantastic performance was displayed last week by a happy and enthusiastic Under 6 Sharks team with some great play from Blake Raper scoring 2 goals, Madisyn Turner and Jack Campbell.
No news this week from those Ghosts and a local derby was the order of the day for the Guyra Hornets V the Guyra Giants. Harry Purvis was the best for the Giants with Caitlin Montague running really hard chasing the ball in what was to be for them a difficult day, although I think they still enjoyed running around against their mates.
For the Hornets the coach was thrilled with their improvement in individual skills and team cooperation. Annie Williamson scored her first goal of the season and it was an absolute beauty. Archer Starr is improving in all aspects of play and scored 2 with Tommy Ryan adding 7 and Charlie Ward 1.
